About Sophia Ovonlen

Sophia is a dedicated and experienced teacher with comprehensive background in providing quality instruction and fostering a positive learning environment.

Having obtained an undergraduate honours degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Obafemi Awolowo University, she completed her NYSC in Port Harcourt Nigeria and commenced her working career at Vigeo Holdings, Lagos Nigeria.

She went on to further her career development completing a diploma in Business Information Systems Management at City of London College which enabled her excel in roles of sales, database and project management for multinationals such as House of Fraser, Exxon Mobil, IBM United Kingdom, PriceWaterHouse Coopers UK and Cable & Wireless UK. Working in these corporate environments provided her great insight to the impact of sound foundational education and personal development. This also rekindled her passion for contributing in the education of others.

This passion spurred her to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge and subsequently attain her UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Over the last decade, she has excelled at individual classroom, whole school teaching and learning responsibilities. She has also undertaken professional development training in Assertive Mentoring, Creative Writing, Effective Use of Plenaries, Teaching Strategies, Positive Behaviour Management, Curriculum Design, Development and Implementation. These have resulted in her achieving several outstanding results from classroom observations and UK OFSTED inspections.

Also, in today’s world of technology, safety for children using on-line applications and networks is a topical issue. Sophia is a UK certified CEOP (Child Exploitation and On-line Protection) Ambassador and the E-Safety Co-ordinator for a UK based primary institution.

Demonstrating strong organizational, leadership and problem solving skills coupled with an extensive knowledge in use of latest educational technologies, Sophia was appointed ICT subject lead in a UK School. Specifically in 2013 as ICT Lead, she designed the ICT work scheme for this institution in line with the overall UK curriculum.

Sophia has a strong passion for teacher training and development which she has championed throughout her career by attending, participating and delivering Continuous Professional Development for Teachers. She is now a Teach First Mentor for the training and mentoring of new teacher towards achieving Qualified Teacher Status.

All these have culminated in her receipt of Outstanding Teacher Status by OLEVI International for Leadership in Teaching and Learning and a Pearson’s Assessment Associate. 

Currently, Sophia functions as a Visible Learning Impact Coach, Assessment Lead and Assistant Head Teacher at a UK Primary School Academy.
Sophia is married with two lovely children and thoroughly enjoys investing in the development and education of young people.
